While on our trek we were able tp pass by 3 monasteries that were designing mandala. Mandalas are multicolored three demensional
paintings made of sand. The monks must finish these intricate designs within 3 days. Afterwhich there is a ceremony and the painting is
left for the breeze to slowly displace each and transform the drawing. After a week or two they will take the painting to the river and throw it
in. The painting and its ritual are supposed to represent the impermanence of life.
